Mind Mine
Mind Mine was an artistic project involving the participation of young people, artists Neil Taylor and Harriet Murray, Dr Elaine Bettie and media artists for the web portal.
The Mind Mine website needed to be both clear and featuring lots of different active media. It targets different audiences, from the general public to the arts world and it needs to be reachable for schools and young students.
We decided to have a big playful index page, representing the original maze built for the exhibition at Campbell Works and showing a selection of the used media.
Then, behind this showcase, we built a classic php website, explaining in depth the process of Mind Mine; we started by creating a branding for the project, based on the original maze and represented by three-dimensional boxes containing data and media. The design is based on a palette of pale greys, including the active navigation tabs. (see above). The 3D logo for the project was also based on the cardboard sheets used in the original exhibition.
As part of the project, Campbell Works, supported by the Welcome Trust and SODA, invited a group of media artists to research existent and forthcoming new digital technologies. On the final website we wanted to use available online resources to better show the process and gain an online presence. This includes: Vimeo video hosting galleries, Flickr photographic galleries and the combined use of SnapShots with Wikipedia for the comprehensive explanations about the brain.
We also used Flash animations, sound, Lightbox galleries and downloadable PDF's. See also new use of flash and video technologies here (bottom right page, takes time to load).
